    Austin News 2007

    By caustin | December 20, 2007

Merry Christmas from the great state of Texas! For those of you who haven’t heard, our family recently moved to Austin, Texas, because Jonathan accepted a new job doing what he did for 12 years —computer programming/analysis. This is our biggest news from 2007 and by far one of our biggest challenges. We are adjusting and are excited about what God has for us in this big city.

    Highlights of 2007:
    • Carrie began her work as a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern at the Pensacola Bay Baptist Associational Office in January. She was working towards full licensure in the state of Florida. Through this position, Carrie’s call to counseling is affirmed even more. “I know this is what I was God created me to do! (help people)”
    • Noah turned 7!
    • Mikayla turned 3!
    • Jonathan and Carrie celebrated 11 years of marriage!
    • May through July, Jonathan experienced life as a New Yorker. He worked in lower Manhattan as a contract programmer/analyst. He rented a small apartment in Stanton Island and enjoyed a view of the Statue of Liberty and the New York skyline on his daily commute to work. He flew home every 2 weeks.
    • We attended the Tamaru Family Reunion in Honolulu, Hawaii, in June/July. It was an incredible time of fun and family. We absolutely loved getting to see family members we’ve not seen in years, as well as meeting new ones.
    • Noah began his second year of Homeschooling.
    • In November, Jonathan accepted a programmer/analyst position in Austin, Texas. It is a contract to permanent position. He’ll work as a contractor for 6 months and then be hired on permanently. He loves his job and they love him!
    • November 8th, we move to Austin!

As we look to 2008, already we can see some positive changes that will be occurring. While it has been incredibly hard to move away from friends and family on the Gulfcoast, we are blessed to have Carrie’s brother, Ken, and his wife, Ellen, nearby. They are expecting their first child in February and it will be a blessing to be around for that! Noah will be attending public school in January. It’s amazing how quickly life can change, but we see God’s design in this entire situation. After hearing amazing things about the public schools in Leander from many different people, we looked into the nearby elementary school. We were impressed by them and are excited about this new experience for Noah. Please keep us in your prayers on this situation.

Mikayla is adjusting to life in Texas, but she misses her grandpa and grandma, grammy, and cousins. She and mommy will be spending more “girl time” together (with Noah in school). Carrie will begin studying for tests that she needs to take for licensure in Texas. Without question, she’ll be pursuing counseling in Austin. Already, opportunities have come available for her to use her counseling skills (on a ministry level) in the interim time before she can begin practicing in Texas.

We look forward to another year together. The importance of togetherness—that is what this year has shown us as a family. Our priorities were put to the test and we learned on a deeper level, the meaning of family. We learned that family game nights, afternoons at the park and family movie nights are more important to us than working 4 jobs between the two of us to make ends meet. We learned that we can be the family we want to be but sometimes it calls for radical change—the kind that pushes us out of our comfort zone. It’s an amazing adventure! Blessings to you and yours from our family!
